Overview
MonuDex is an iOS travel collection app. You can browse its monument catalogue without an account. A monument unlock requires an in-app camera image and location permission. MonuDex does not sell personal information, show behavioural ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Information we use
Collection data on your device
Your onboarding choice, unlocked monument identifiers, badges, and any verification image waiting for a network retry are stored locally in the app's storage on your iPhone. MonuDex does not currently provide accounts or cloud collection sync.
Precise location
With your permission, the app reads your current coordinates to calculate your distance from catalogue coordinates and confirm that you are within the unlock range. The current release performs this calculation on your device and does not send your precise coordinates to the MonuDex verification server.
Verification images
When you submit an unlock or monument-detection attempt, the camera image, the expected monument name, and limited verification instructions are sent to the MonuDex verification service. The image is used to determine whether the monument and, for an unlock, a selfie face are visible. MonuDex does not perform facial identification or determine who you are.
Website and support
Our hosting and email providers may process ordinary server logs and information you include in a support email, such as an IP address, browser type, message, and email address. The website does not use advertising trackers.
How verification works
MonuDex uses AI-assisted image analysis only to return a monument match and related verification signals. The result is combined on your device with the distance check. Images are not used by MonuDex to create a public profile, recognize identity, or train a MonuDex facial-recognition system.
If a verification request cannot be sent because the network is unavailable, the image may remain in the app's local retry queue. You can remove queued images at any time from Settings > Delete uploaded selfies.
Retention and security
The MonuDex verification server is designed not to persist submitted images after returning a verification result. OpenAI may retain limited API request data for safety and abuse monitoring for up to 30 days unless a different retention control applies. A locally queued image remains on your device until a retry completes, you clear queued images in Settings, or you delete the app.
Support emails and related correspondence are retained only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, protect the service, or meet legal obligations. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no transmission or storage system is completely secure.
Your choices and rights
You can decline camera or location permission and continue browsing the catalogue, although verification and nearby features will not work. Permissions can be changed in iOS Settings. You can clear queued images inside MonuDex and remove all local app data by deleting the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information held by us. Contact us to make a request. Because the current app has no user accounts, we may hold no server-side record that can be associated with you after verification is complete.
Children
MonuDex is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where local law requires it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable age.
International processing
Verification and support information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as MonuDex changes. We will revise the date above and provide additional notice when required.
